|What is Ball Mastery and 1v1s?|
Ball Mastery is the controlled manipulation of the ball with both feet while using varies parts of your feet. Ball mastery is using the inside, outside, sole, laces, or heal of your feet. It is the ability to push, pull, drag, roll, and chop in many different directions and combinations while manipulating the ball with your feet.
|Why is Ball Mastery and 1v1s Important?|
|Mastering the ball helps Raise Your Level of a player’s game. You want to control the ball, not the ball controlling you. You must learn to coordinate the different movements of both feet with speed, balance, agility, quickness, and coordination. Being able to shift your feet quickly and touch the ball with the correct weight (pace) to move the ball with grace, finesse, and fluidity. It takes time and practice, but it can be mastered! It is the personal relationship that one will have with their ball that will make them a stronger player. Your technical aptitude will directly affect your contribution to the team.
After establishing a comfort level with contacting the ball with all parts of both feet, soccer players may be introduced to 1v1 moves, also known as fakes and feints. Some may call it breaking anckles or tricks, etc. This is when the player with the ball engages a defender, 1 v 1, to entice the defender to go one way so the dribbler can go the other way. It involves touch, speed, control, finesse, and lots of hard work on the part of the dribbler to be effective.
