Why ACL Prevention? | |
Did you know that athletes involved in multi-planar sports, like soccer, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, and lacrosse are at risk with an ACL tear or injury? Also, female athletes are 4 to 8 times more likely to tear or injure an ACL than male athletes? The ACL is typically injured when a player cuts, lands from a jump, or is hit by an opposing player (causing the knee to overly bend and rotate). When this ligament is torn, the chief complaint is usually a buckling or giving way sensation in the knee. The reason for this is the ACL’s major role in providing stability to the knee. When it is damaged, instability will result. When it comes to the ACL, it is more important to learn the correct technique for cutting and jump landing. This 6-week progressive program for both male and female athletes start with the focus on a safe, proper alignment principles for strength, balance, flexibility, mobility as well as the body/mind connection for proprioception. From this foundation we will incorporate a variety of equipment and new exercises to keep it challenging and fun! |
